I Really Love the Lord

“I love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live.” Psalms 116: 1-2

When we love someone with all our heart, soul, and mind, we empty ourselves of every emotion and thought to please and satisfy our beloved in hopes that it is returned. Of course, as life would have it sometimes that same wholehearted love is not reciprocal! But this type of love is what the Greek terminology names eros; Eros is a Greek word which means desire and is used for a husband and wife’s love. It is a physical and sensual love. This love can only be between two persons.

God commands that we love Him with all our heart, soul, and mind… “And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,” Deuteronomy 10:12. God is a spirit and we must worship Him in spirit and in truth…this goes far beyond a physical attraction or feeling; the truth is we cannot know love without knowing God… “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” 1 John 4:10.

God’s love is not and eros love…but agape love; agape is the term that defines God’s immeasurable, and incomparable love. It is His ongoing, self-sacrificing concern for all people, it goes beyond anything that we can humanly imagine; praise God that He gives this love without condition and totally unreserved. So much so that He went to a hill called Golgotha and died on an old rugged cross-but He got up with all power on that third day morning…just for you and I! Hallelujah!

David in the 116th Psalm gives thanksgiving and praise in response to the mercy and love of God towards him. “I love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live.” Psalms 116: 1-2; He expresses his love because of who God is and what God has done for him! God the Creator of the universe heard his voice and answered his prayers; therefore, he resolved to continually call on the Lord.

What about you and me?  God still hears our calls, and He lovingly answers according to His will. He faithfully extends His mercy towards every single day “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23. we too with gladness of heart and soul should humble ourselves and show forth our love towards Him—I am not sure about you…but when I think about what God has done for me . . . I can’t hold me peace!

What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me? I will take the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the Lord.” Psalm 116:12-13 … I really love the Lord, and to Him, I surrender all- what about you?

God blessing and amazing grace keep you in prefect peace always.
