The Believer’s Walk

“Therefore, we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:4

A chameleon is a small lizard that can change colors with the environment. There are different reasons that these changes occur like temperature or mood; but the small animal is very versatile and adapts to the climate or temperature most appropriate. Human beings are a lot like these small creatures…many people adjust their attitudes, actions, and decisions on those in their closest sphere of influence. But this should not be the walk of a born-again believer. We are new creatures in Christ Jesus. Romans 6:4 tells us “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:4

We walk in newness of life by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit; He is our guide, comforter, and supplier of spiritual fruit. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23. This precious fruit from God above is what guides our actions, attitudes, and decisions towards Him and others.

Love is preeminent, it leads the way…without love we are unable to embrace any of the other graces that God gives; all things begin and end with love, because God is love! Our Christian walk is therefore guided in love. Galatians 5:14 state “For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”

This Christian journey is not a walk of ease; because we are saved and indwelt by the Holy Spirit does not mean the spirit of the world and the enemy of our souls will not try and influence us to walk in our old nature. Let us listen and obey the leading of the Holy Spirit in all that we do; “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” Galatians 5:26

The old gospel hymn state I got a new walk over in glory and it is mine, mine, all mine! How does the world see our walk as beloved children of God – does our walk look like everyone else’s -or do we stand apart and resemble our Savior? The Word of God always give us the direction to follow, will we walk in obedience? “And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the Lord am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine.”

God’s amazing grace and love keep us all!
