“O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever.” Psalm 118:1

The Word of God is our shining light and teaches us how to have and intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father. Psalm 92:1-2 admonishes us to first of all give thanks unto our Great and Almighty God “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High: To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,”  I can hear the beautiful sound as we raise our voices in triumphant song to God…Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!

God alone is good and His mercy towards us is everlasting. “O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever.” Psalm 118:1. Goodness is His essence and nature. “And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good?  there is none good but one, that is, God.” Mark 10:18. Everything good originates from God, He is our Creator, strength, salvation now and forever.

Even when we feel like things are not going as it appears they should…God is still good and knows what is best for us; trials and tribulations come to grow and make us stronger; in all things we should give thanks; for the scripture tells us that it is the will of God concerning us; just as David called on Jews and Gentiles alike to give thanks unto God in Psalm 118…we must sing with robust praise with all that is within us to show forth our praise!

And exactly where would we be without the grace and mercy of God-dead in our sins; Jesus died on that cross one Friday afternoon and took away our sins! I do not know about you today…but just thinking of His unconditional love towards us brings praise to my lips; no matter what comes or goes…to Him I give all the glory!

We live in a sinful world, and it is only by His loving kindness and amazing grace that we are kept safe from the enemy of our souls. The apostle Paul wrote in Romans 7:24-25: “O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.” Nothing but the blood of Jesus could wash away our sins…Only He is good and merciful, it is not about anything that we possess, or have done…but just because of who He is; the lyrics to the gospel song tell the story…to Him belongs all the honor, glory, and praise:
