Thanksgiving

“Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.” Psalm 95:2

Fond memories of Thanksgiving Day as a child meant family, friends and the smell of roast turkey, potato pies and all sort of delicious dishes cooked by my mother. Oh yes, we knew the purpose was to give God thanks for all His many blessings; dad would assemble the family together and we would kneel around the living room sofa; he would pray and give God thanks for providing and protecting us throughout another year. But as we grow in the fear and the knowledge of God, we learn that everyday is a day of Thanksgiving. Psalm 95:2 state “Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.”

Every born-again believer has an intimate relationship with God; the longer we walk with Him and eat from the food of His table, the more we desire to give Him glory, honor, and thanks for all of His goodness and mercy. Matthew 5:8 tells us “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”

I am reminded of the Samaritan woman who met Jesus at the well “Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.” John 4:10. Jesus was offering her eternal life; and just like her when we receive His living water our well will never run dry! To God be the glory, that woman ran from the well that day with a thankful heart “The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?” John 28-29.

There is absolutely nothing that can nourish our souls like the Holy Spirit and the peace, joy, and love that He gives. Our only response can be one of total praise and thanksgiving to our great and Almighty God, the giver and sustainer of life. David expressed and extolled God in 1 Chronicles 29:11 “Thine, O Lord is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all.”

Today and everyday let us thank God for all His many blessings and unconditional love. Jesus is our way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, light in the darkness… our God that is who He is, a name above all names; let us worship and give Him all of your thanksgiving now and forever!

God blessings of grace and peace be with us all.
