A Tree Well Nourished

“And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” Psalm 1:3.

Did you know that a deep rooted tree can survive prolonged dry periods as a resort of its capacity to uptake water below the ground? The roots run so deep that they can reach the rich nourishment and water to great depths below the soil.

The Psalmist in the 1st Psalm writes of a blessed man who meditates on God’s word; he is just like these deep rooted trees that receive rich nourishment from a constant flowing stream; but this man receives living water from on high which provides eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord: John 4:14 state “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life” This life giving water replenishes our souls over and over again… it will never run dry.

If we remain steadfast to the study of God’s word, we will grow and become spiritual reservoirs of His amazing grace. I am reminded of the seed that fell on good ground in Matthew 13:23 “But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”

The seed is the word of God and how it grows in our lives; the difference in the seed that fell on good ground was the ability to produce fruit. When we are receptive to the word, and it is well planted in our hearts; it produces abundant fruit in and through us for the glory of God.

This is where we all should desire to be in our spiritual walk with the Lord. When we understand and adhere to God’s word; it changes our hearts, brings us into maturity and is evident in our living. We must strive to stay in the word, study to be quiet and listen that we may grow; Peter put it like this in 1 Peter 2:2 “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:”

What are you reading to nourish your mind and soul? Psalm 1:2 “and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”  My father instilled in my heart that the word of God is our prescription for life; if you are seeking peace, comfort, and guidance in the midst of all that we are encountering in our world today, cling to the word of God; for in it we find abundant and everlasting life.

God’s grace and peace with us all.
