Landmines
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12
We study, consider, and strive to apply our spiritual weapons of warfare against the enemy on a daily basis. This is exactly where we need to be, to stay on guard against an attack from the enemy of our souls. The apostle Paul admonishes us “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Ephesians 6:13.
In the meantime, the enemy has no problem with us preparing to fight if he can keep us blinded to his subtle strategic forces lying right in our sight. The object is that his weapons are hidden and often look harmless.
This reminds me of landmines. As a young child around five or six, my experience or knowledge of a landmine was impressed on mind when my eldest sister’s finance, PFC John Earl Powell, was killed in the Vietnam War. The discussion that I remember from my parents and His mom was that he stepped on a landmine.
In research I understand that there are distinct types of landmines. The one most utilized and effective in the Vietnam War was the M18 Claymore. These type mines are called anti-personnel and are meant to kill all those in close surrounding areas. There was also what was called the “Toe Popper” this mine was not meant to kill but to maim the soldier and bring others back to retrieve him. We can see how that could be most effective in capturing prisoners of war.
These physical weapons of warfare can be related to weapons in spiritual warfare. Satan uses various landmines in our lives to keep us from reaching our destination in the kingdom of God. He wants to kill or even maim us to destroy our witness. Obstacles such as: fear, insecurity, envy, jealousy, pride, and compromise are only a few in which we must be keenly aware of; the Lord warned the disciples with these words “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” His word stands true for us today, watch as well as pray.
“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” Matthew 28:18. Our eternal salvation that is secured in Jesus Christ our Lord and the power that He alone possesses over all things. He is the only potentate, and through His power we are overcomers!
Jesus promise to the disciples, still stands true for us today “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” Every born-again believer is indwelt with the Holy Spirit, our comforter, keeper, and faithful guide; He gives us spiritual insight and power to fight the good fight of faith and spread the Gospel.
The enemy’s landmines are set all around… but, we are equipped with all the spiritual weaponry that we need; let us embrace the power of the Holy Ghost that lives in us and assures the victory!’ “Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” Hebrews 13:20-21.
In the midst of the turmoil that we see and experience in this world, all is not lost as some may think; we are victorious through Jesus Christ our Lord. . . remember, the battle is already won, God wins every time!
God blessing, peace and strength be with you today and always!
