Spiritual Sustenance
“And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.” Deuteronomy 8:3.
In order to sustain life, the body must be fed food. It has been said that the human body can survive only three weeks without food; however, longer periods of starvation will shut the body down and the decaying process will become imminent. So it is with the spiritual life; the soul must be fed from the bread of heaven. “I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” John 6:51.
Moses’ discourse and renewal of God’s Commandments with the children of Israel prior to possessing the Promised Land, gave a strong reminder that they did not survive through the wilderness on their own recognizance, or physical food, but by the Word of God.
The Israelites were called out to be a chosen generation of people; ones who would be witnesses to the world of the One true and living God. In the wilderness they were being prepared as God’s nation; they were tested, humbled, protected and provided for by God, the lesson to learn was that God love is eternal; He was, is and always will be the sustainer of both physical and spiritual life now and forever.
Just as God sustained and provided for His children in the wilderness, Jesus, the Bread of Life, is the same God today, He is our spiritual sustenance, through His shed blood on the cross, we have the right to eternal life and when we give our lives over to Him, He will feed us from heaven, and we will never hunger!
My friends, because God loves us unconditionally, He has sent His only begotten Son to give us eternal life; Jesus the Christ, is the only provision and the way; He draws, saves, strengthens, and transforms the sin sick soul; if you do not know Him in the pardons of your sins, won’t you come to the marvelous light today- Jesus is calling, choose eternal life! “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23.
And to every born-again believer, let us pray for the constant filling of the Holy Ghost and desire the pure Word of God; the Apostle Peter admonished us in 1 Peter 2:2 “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” let us learn to relinquish self-confidence for God-confidence; it is the Word of God that guides and instructs us in doctrine, corrects us when we fall, pointing us to what is right according to His divine will and praise God puts us back on track, it perfects in us what God has planned for His beloved children. So, come let us eat from the table of the Lord this morning…He will fill our souls!
God blessings and peace to all.
