A Tight Situation

“There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.” Psalm 46:4

Have you ever been cornered in? You have no earthly idea which way to go. God is our safe place in all circumstances. Psalm 46:1 state “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” There is safety in the power, presence, and purposes of God. Nothing and no one can keep us safe from the chaos in this world but God. So, when you are corned in and find yourself in a tight situation . . . hold to God’s unchanging hands!

God’s power is always available. I heard a sermon once and the minister stated that when God creates a river, He is up to something. In the beginning God created a river that flowed through the Garden of Eden, providing nourishment for His creation; “And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.” Genesis 2:10; we also read of a spiritual river that will flow in the New Jerusalem found in the book of Revelations 22:1-2 “And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.” This river gives and preserves nourishment for spiritual life and flows forever. The rivers symbolize the Lord God Almighty’s presence, sustaining power and provision for His beloved children.

The children of Israel in the Old Testament were always caught in a tight situation! Their test was to recognize and embrace the truth that God is the ultimate source of all things; He will always provide, protect, and love His people. “For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.” Psalm 84:11.

The city of Jerusalem was the capitol city for the Jewish nation. It sits in the land promised by God in the Abrahamic Covenant. But did you know that there is no river flowing through Jerusalem? Jerusalem sits on a plateau and there is water in surrounding areas, but not flowing through Jerusalem. What was God up to? God establishes that He alone is God and there is absolutely no one else that can take the glory for what He does. The city may not have a river; but the Creator of the river, is the divine supplier!

Are you in a tight situation today? Just remember that you are not in this all by yourself. . .  God is the eternal river that never ceases to protect, provide, and nourish our souls. “There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.” Psalm 46:4.

God is always working behind the scenes, no matter how dark the night, bleak the path…God is with us. He is omnipotent and will keep us safe in His everlasting arms. “For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.” Psalm 27:5.

God blessings of comfort and love keep our minds in perfect peace, we can depend on God.
