Don’t Fret
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6
Stuck in traffic one morning on the way to an important meeting, I looked up ahead and all I could see was a long line of cars that were barely moving. The clock seemed to move forward in record time! Estimating my projected arrival time, made things look pretty grim. I said a prayer for God to step in and help me get to my meeting on time somehow. “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6
Looking up ahead again at the creeping traffic, a spiritual analogy came to mind, that helped to alleviate my worries immediately. I thought, just look at the car in front of you and not at the lengthy line up ahead, keep moving because you cannot go pass the car in front of at any rate. The Holy Spirit reminded me that morning what the Lord has told us to do in His word. To take one day at time; do not spend time worrying about tomorrow; “Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” Matthew 6:26.
My mind was put at ease that morning with the Word of God. I stopped looking at the extensive line and continued to follow the car directly in front of me. We moved slowly, but with continuous moment I came to my exit and made it to my meeting on time! I was a lot less frustrated than if I had kept my eyes on the traffic jam.
Everything in our lives should be thought of in the same context. Worrying and fretting will not solve the problem or make the time past any slower or quicker. Matthew 6:34 reminds us to ‘Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. God holds the future in His hands, and we can trust Him to provide the strength and peace that we need to face the circumstances that we must endure at the present moment.
So, let us choose to cast all our cares on the Lord, not fretting and worrying about what comes next; but seeking the patience and strength of our Almighty and faithful God to provide for all that we need and to keep us in perfect peace. “Each day though it brings it troubles, shall also bring it’s help.” -unknown.
God’s blessings of strength, patience, and peace keep us all throughout this day.
