An Everlasting Love
“The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” Jeremiah 31:3.
There are many couples who stand before an altar, gaze in one another eyes and make sincere promises to love one another forever. Unfortunately, years later they are found standing before a judge claiming irreconcilable differences. All born-again believers comprise the Church, the bride of our Lord, Jesus Christ. We can rest in the assurance that His love for us is everlasting “The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” Jeremiah 31:3.
The nation of Israel was taken into captivity by King Nebuchadnezzar, this devastating set back was due to their disobedience in serving idols instead of faithfully following the covenant that they made in their relationship with God. The period of captivity lasted over seventy years. As we can imagine, the chosen children of God, found themselves despondent and feeling hopeless. But God is merciful and gracious. . . they were reminded to recall all the goodness that God had shown to them since the times of their forefathers; and how He delivered and provided for them in the past. They would never be outside of the watchful and protective eye of God; the captivity did not last, and God faithfully returned them to their homeland.
Regardless to where we may find ourselves in life or how bad we may have messed up… all of those who love the Lord and are called by His name can stand on His same promise today “Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love;” God’s love is not temporary, or given for just one or two generations, but will continue throughout all generations. Therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn thee — God has bestowed His amazing grace on all who reverence, fear, and place our hope in Him, His love for us will never cease!
Our relational standing with God has been permanently fixed through the precious blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. “And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.” Jeremiah 31:40.” Jesus paid it all on the cross…that is love!
Though the road gets mighty tough and there are certainly many times that we can’t see our way clearly… we are traveling this journey of life by faith, and not by sight; recognizing that we are never alone; our constant companion, comforter, and faithful guide, the Holy Spirit…is with us every step of the way; He brightens the path, lightens the load, and assures us that God’s grace is sufficient for us.
My friends, this day…let us cast all our cares on Jesus, the Christ- our Creator and the Savior of the world; praise be to God, we are secure in His everlasting arms of love! “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” John 10:28.
God’s blessings of peace and love to all.
