What Spirit Are You Following?

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Romans 8:14

God so graciously made man a living soul in His image. We have the mental capacity to think and interact with others intelligently; and God has given us a free will to competently make our own decisions. In doing so, we must be born-again… indwelt by the Holy Spirit… “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Romans 8:14

Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden by choice. Eve allowed Satan to influence her trust and belief in God and Adam followed her decision at great consequence for all mankind.

When we make decisions, we too are influenced; there are three different spirits that can guide our walk either positively or negatively:

1) The Spirit of God who teaches us to know and love God, our fellowman and leads us in the paths of righteousness.

2) The Spirit of Man that drives us to live and value the propensity of the human mind for what the natural man determines is good, right, fair, and helpful.

3) The Spirit of the World which is Satanic, a selfish attitude that seeks the riches of this world at all costs.

Satan’s main objective is to accuse and destroy the children of God, he is subtle and cunning; seeking to sway our minds, thoughts, and decisions far from the will of God… while all the time hoping that we will fall into his trap of lies and deceit to discredit our Christian witness. 1 Peter 5:8 tells us to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”

Only a sharp laser view of life will enable us to recognize the landmines set by Satan and his demonic forces; this puts me in mind of what the expert pilot calls high and low recon. “From a high recon the pilot assumes a potential landing zone to be safe and accessible. However, he/she should not commit to it until they have surveyed it from a closer altitude (low recon). The low recon is where the decision to land is made.” N. J. McClain, Sr.

In a spiritual context the high recon view gives us a natural picture of people and things in our circle of influence; they look pretty good on the surface; but the low recon gives us a closer view, one equipped with infrared imaging to detect what is really underneath the surface

My friends, The Holy Spirit provides our, “low recon,” or ability to intricately see the dangers we may encounter along life’s journey, and He faithfully leads us to safer ground. As McClain wrote in reference to the pilot’s dependence on low recon; so is the Holy Spirit our safe zone where all decisions must be made; we should never commit to making any decisions outside of the will of God. We can withstand and will defeat the plans of the enemy when we are led by the Holy Spirit. “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” 1 John 4:4.

Let us watch our steps, following only where the Spirit of God leads; praying for the ability to hear when He speaks… and we will be able to see the right landing zone every time! “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:” John 10:27.
