Having Confidence
“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:” Philippians 1:6
The feeling or belief that we can rely on someone or something, is what we define as being confident. We live having confidence in the smallest of things, like sitting on a chair and having no earthly idea whether it will hold us up or not. But the only firm trust that we can be assured of is that which we place in our sovereign and Almighty God.
The Apostle Paul wrote the book of Philippians to encourage the saints in Philippi even though he himself was in prison. Throughout his letter, Paul was encouraging the people of Philippi to live in a manner that was obedient to God and encouraging to one another. Philippians 1:6 state, “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:” God’s amazing grace has provided salvation to all men. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are immediately indwelt by the Holy Spirit, He comforts, guides and empowers us throughout this journey called life.
At the moment of salvation, the process of sanctification begins and will continue in our lives as God conforms us into the image of His dear Son. Regardless to how many obstacles the enemy chooses to though in our way; we are safe in the hands of God.
We can take comfort and assurance in the word of God that state “My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.” Nothing is able to separate us from the love of God!
Let us hold fast to our faith, knowing that whatever is transpiring in our lives, God’s divine providence is at work. We can rest in His unconditional love and promises that assures us that “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.” Psalm 37:23.
So, let us shake off bouts of discouragement and unexpected disappointments. Hebrews 12:12-13 encourages us “Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.” God will heal our hearts and souls… the disappointments that we encounter are only temporary.
My friends, we can depend on God, putting our firm trust and confidence in Him alone . . . “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6.
God’s blessings of peace, joy and mercy be with us all.
