The Glory Belongs to God

“O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens” Psalm 8:1.

David writes with awe-stricken conviction of how excellent God truly is…in fact He begins the eighth Psalm by calling His name; O Lord, our Lord, translated in the Hebrew language as O Jehovah our Lord, there is no heart or tongue that could even express the half of God’s glory. All of creation is a manifestation of His goodness, majesty, power, and divine providence . . . He is the Sovereign ruler of all heaven and earth. “O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens” Psalm 8:1.

God is omniscient, and it is impossible to ignore the manifestation of His glory. There are those who are adamant that God does not exist, and somehow take credit for their own life and all that they possess. The bible teaches us that it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of God… yet even in man’s unbelief, God extends His mercy and loving kindness towards us all. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8.

Daniel chapter four gives us an account of King Nebuchadnezzar’s witness to the greatness and final authority of God. It begins with the witness of his prideful fall and gives us a glimpse at the king’s willful disregard of God’s sovereignty. He refused to acknowledge that all that he possessed belonged to God; as a result, he became subject to God’s judgment as his rational mind was taken away, he was led into the wilderness and lived as a beast for seven years. “The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws. Daniel 4:33.

Sometimes God must break us so that we can recognize or remember the truth found in Psalm 24:1 “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” We can readily see God’s love and mercy on display for mankind as the king was restored to his right mind and kingdom. “And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:” Daniel 4:34.

Let us fervently pray that pride or any other deterrent will ever take our focus off the glory that belongs to God alone; we are His creation, absolutely nothing exists without His power. The heavens and earth continue to give us evidence of His glory as we see His handiwork on the earth and in the celestial heavens.

God loves us unconditionally and the account of Nebuchadnezzar finally gives an excellent witness of His amazing grace and forgiveness. May we never forget that all things belong to God! Let us extol and honor the King of Kings just as Nebuchadnezzar proclaimed, “Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.” Daniel 4:37

God blessings of peace and grace be with us all.
