Gratefulness
“Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.” Psalm 95:2
Fond memories of Thanksgiving Day as a child meant family, friends and the smell of roast turkey, sweet potato pies and all sort of delicious dishes cooked by my mother. Oh yes, we well knew the purpose was to give God thanks for all His many blessings; first thing in the morning, dad would wake us all to assemble together, as we knelt around the living room sofa, he would pray and give God thanks for providing and protecting us throughout another year; and praise God, as we grow in the fear and the knowledge of God, we learn that every day is a day of Thanksgiving. Psalm 95:2 admonishes our hearts “Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.”
Every born-again believer has an intimate relationship with God; the longer we walk with Him and eat from the food of His table, the more we desire to give Him glory, honor, and thanks for all His goodness and mercy. Matthew 5:8 tells us “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”
I am reminded of the extreme gratitude shown by the Samaritan woman who met Jesus at the well “Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.” John 4:10. Jesus was offering her eternal life; and just like her when we receive His living water our well will never run dry!
That woman ran from the well that day with a heart overflowing with gratitude “The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?” John 28-29.
There is absolutely nothing that can nourish our souls like the Holy Spirit and the peace, joy, and love that He gives! Our only response should be to give thanks to our great and Almighty God, the giver and sustainer of life. “O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” Psalm 107:1.
David expressed and extolled God in 1 Chronicles 29:11 “Thine, O Lord is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all.”
So, let us all enter this day of thanksgiving and always …reflecting on God’s amazing grace towards us all… being grateful for His many blessings and unconditional love; I do believe when our hearts overflow and with thanksgiving …God sends abundant blessings down on His beloved children. “O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” Psalm 136:1.
Happy Thanksgiving and God blessings of grace and peace be with us all.
