“I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” John 9:4.

Procrastination is the act of delaying or postponing something. I once heard a story of a young woman who received a beautiful, laced slip from her husband. However, every time she dressed to go somewhere, she never wore it…the husband asked her, why- her response was that she was waiting from something really special; years later the husband found the beautiful slip still neatly folded in her drawer, he took it out for her to wear-she had passed away.

Our Lord and Savior spoke to His disciples prior to His crucifixion and the healing of a blind man, with these words “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” John 9:4. Jesus spoke of the mission for which the Father sent him, it was imminent that He continued His work, because His physical death was near.

The analogy that Jesus used in day and night can refer to life and death; young and old; strong/able-weak/unable; but the final analysis is the same…there is a time to work and there will come a time in all of our lives when we will not be able too. “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:” Ecclesiastes 3:1.

God has called each of His beloved children to a specific work…are you waiting to find the time to get it done-or are you striving everyday to faithfully work out your soul salvation? Think about it…have you ever felt the need to pray, call, or visit someone, and then decided to wait until later- put it on your to do list- and unfortunately, it was too late? When God says move…move!

This very moment is all that you are assured of-every breathe that we take is given by our gracious and Almighty God. Scripture admonishes us about time “Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” James 4:13-14.

Watch out for the tendency to put off what we can do today, for tomorrow; the beautiful gospel song entitled “Tomorrow” is about someone choosing to give their life to God, “tomorrow” but, it strongly advises that tomorrow just very well be too late; it is a fact that the old will soon pass away, and the young do not have to get old; rejoice in today and live to the glory of God. “This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24.

My friends, if you are a born-again believer, don’t let Him catch you with your works undone, seek to do good, encourage others and let your light so shine in this dark world…and if by chance, you have not accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, then today is the day of salvation- tomorrow is not promise-Jesus is knocking on the door of your heart-let Him in!  “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20.

There is a reason that today is called the present…it is a beautiful gift from God; may we all strive to appreciate, and live the life that we are given…working while it is day; and prayerfully, when the night does appear, we will hear the words of our Lord say –“His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” Matthew 25:21.
