Our Great Succorer

“He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.” Psalm 91:4.

The word succor comes to mind in times like these . . . it is defined as assistance and support in hardship and distress. It goes far beyond help and denotes the actions of one who has the ability to aide, shield and protect from danger, as to safely hide away behind a rock for shelter in great calamity.  Jesus, our Lord and Savior, is our great succorer; whatever may be going on in our lives today, God’s got this too! “For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.”  Hebrews 2:18.

When we reach a point where there appears to be no answers to things that try our very souls, we must release and let go to our divine source, our great succorer. “In his greatness and majesty: He is the high and lofty One that inhabits eternity.”- Matthew Henry. Our thoughts of God must exalt Him above all that we can possibly conceive. He sits high in the Heavens in a transcendent place untouchable by man. Isaiah 40:25 state “To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.” Isaiah 40:25.

There is no creature, or any other thing that is like or can be compared to the Lord God Almighty. He is sovereign and immutable. . . so I ask you, is there anything too hard for our God to handle? Absolutely not, we can place our trust in His omnipotence.  Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.” Isaiah 40:26.

My friends, isn’t it a blessing to know that God has it all in control, especially when we feel we’ve lost all the little control we have? His tender mercies are available to us each new day. “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23.

God knows our every weakness and His amazing grace gives us strength, peace and the sinew to humble ourselves before His throne of mercy. Everything that we read in His word, admonishes us to come and cast our cares on Him; He hears our call and knows our heart. “And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” Romans 8:27.

Let us pray for the Holy Spirit to help us release our concerns in His care. He is faithful and will heal our brokenness; He will be our shelter- our succorer in the midst of the storms of life. “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.” Psalm 91:4.

God blessings and peace to all.
