Guard Your Mind

“Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;” I Peter 1:13

“And idle mind is the devil’s workshop.” I know you have heard this saying many times. It is not validated in the bible; but speaks of the propensity to allow thoughts and deeds of negativity to invade our mental space. The enemy of our souls is waiting to take advantage of our weakness, and to allow pessimism to enter our minds; he only seeks to bring us down with fear, anxiety, and even evil deeds against others, scripture validates that he is the father of all lies and admonishes us to gird up the loins of our minds. ““Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;” I Peter 1:13.

In order to walk victorious along this Christian journey we must guard our hearts and minds against spiritual wickedness; staying sober…the act of guarding against intoxicating influences of the mind… not meaning as with alcohol…but the ability to remain emotionally stable, spiritually strong; and astutely aware that we are not in a fight against others. Ephesians 6:13 reminds us “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12.

This fight is constant and is not over until we reach our destination in Heaven with the Lord; Satan and all his demonic forces are the arch enemies of our souls…but the good news is that he has already been defeated! Colossians 2:15 state that Jesus is triumphant… “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”

Satan is more than aware of his demise to come …but he vehemently walks about seeking to destroy every born-again believer; subtly targeting our minds, which are the most vulnerable areas of attack. So, be on guard, stay encouraged, remaining steadfast in prayer, sober minded, and never ceasing to desire the sincere milk of the word…seeking the truth of God, which will tear down any stronghold. (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 2 Corinthians 10:4.

My friends, God centered thoughts that are positive and true, are the foundations of a peaceful, sober mind and definitely a defensive attack against the onslaught to the enemy. Philippians 4:8 admonishes us “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

I am not sure about you, but I am in this fight to win! And yes, we will be attacked over and over again when we least expect it, out of the blue as my parents would say; but we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to overcome all the assaults of the devil… we are victorious through Christ Jesus our Lord! “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” 1 John 4:4.
