Twixt-and in Between!
“And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.” I Kings 18:21.
I would often hear my parents use the phrase “twixt and in between.” What did that mean I would think; betwixt is actually and only English term that means between two things. There are certainly times when we feel caught between our decisions.
When it comes to matters of the soul; Satan seeks to hit us just where it hurts the most when caught between decisions of right and wrong; his strategic plan is to make us feel as though it is an impossibility to release our worldly concerns and possessions as a top priority and be faithful to God.
But, we must never fall for the lie, stay on guard and recognize that Satan’s greatest tactic is to attack our mind and emotions; no child of God is exempt from his aggressive onslaughts to take us out completely; that is why the apostle Paul admonished us to “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Ephesians 6:11.
In the Book of 1 Kings, we read the account of how the prophet Elijah consistently warned and rebuked the Israelites for their indecisiveness and practice of following idol gods. “And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.” I Kings 18:21. Naturally they found his words offensive, because they did not want to hear about their sins!
We too can easily fall privy to the lies of the enemy and temporary lose sight of our guiding light in Christ…. The Holy Spirit calls us out on our sins…just like the Israelites, we would rather not hear about our sins either; It is similar to a person when the body succumbs to the point of freezing; the person feels a pleasant numbness…the absence of pain that he/she does not want to end, and they just slip off to sleep almost freezing to death.
But when heat is applied, and the blood begins rushing into the affected areas, pain immediately occurs. That is a sure signal that life is being restored to the body! My friends…The Holy Spirit is our spiritual heat…He turns up the fire and directs us to the word of God- just like the prophets of old; He rebukes, corrects, and gives us instructions to follow where God leads. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” 2 Timothy 3:16.
The old Christian spiritual puts it like this…on Christ the solid rock I stand…all other ground is sinking sand. God is faithful to every one of His promises; so, if you have fallen on the wayside of life today and halting between to opinions… going contrary to the will of God…how long will you remain twixt and in-between?
Let go and let God…release your will over to His, stay the course, choosing to follow where He leads; having this blessed assurance, that He will never leave us twixt and in- between! “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9.
God blessings of peace and comfort be with you all.
