Be Strong and of a Good Courage!
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” Joshua 1:9
Webster defines the term strong as one who has power derived from muscular vigor, large size, structural soundness, intellectual or spiritual resources; likewise courageous is one who has the mental or moral strength to venture or proceed even when withstanding danger, fear, or difficulty.
There comes a point in life when we find ourselves asking questions like, how can I possibly do this or pleading for strength to finish the task that has been set before us… and due to human frailty, we are often ready to through in the towel- especially when there appears to be no clear way to be successful…but that’s the very point where we must step out of self and release our will to the sovereignty of God!
Job stated it like this “I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.” Job 42:2. Remember that in own strength we can’t, but God can!
At the death of Moses the Lord appointed Joshua to be his successor and lead the Israelites into the Promise Land-can you imagine the thoughts an anxiety that Joshua must have felt having to fill the shoes of God’s chosen deliverer and personal secretary?! . . . but over and over again God so graciously provided encouragement, assurance and direction -He repeatedly reminded him to be strong and of a good courage.
When God commands, He also provides the means and assurance by which the task will be carried out. A familiar quotes states: “if God brings you to it…He will bring you through it!”
My friends, God doesn’t leave us second guessing- He provides all the resources, strength and courage that we need to accomplish His will! Philippians 4:13 states: “I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me.”
Finally, I ask you what challenge are you facing today- no matter the circumstances, be it a valley to cross or mountain to climb-God will provide, protect, and be with you in and through it all! “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” Joshua 1:9.
May God’s loving-kindness keep you in peace today and always.
