The Gift of the Present

“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Psalm 90:12.

Today we were awakened with the gift of the present, this very moment to live and walk in our divine purpose. God amazingly blessed us to see this day. It is easy to get caught up in what comes next…tomorrow and next year; but the Our Father prayer, teaches us to pray for Our Heavenly Father to give us all that we need this day. “Give us this day our daily bread.”  May God help us all to recognize that our lives are orchestrated and planned by Him alone; and because He orders our steps, may we faithfully trust in His divine sovereignty for the future.

“Stop and smell the roses” is an idiom that means to slow down; to take time out of our busy schedule to enjoy or appreciate the beauty of life. It is an encouragement to live life with a deeper gratefulness for the world around us. It is a reminder to take notice of the people and events of the day, to be present in every moment, seeing beyond the ordinary and perceiving the divine providence of God in and through His creation.

Every time a loved one or dear friend passes on, we are keenly aware of how short life really is… Psalm ninety speaks of our moral brevity; “The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.” So, while we are rushing ahead with plans for tomorrow, let us be thankful this day- for exactly who we are and what we have … we are blessed beyond measure.

God help us to seek opportunities to also encourage someone along this journey of life- we are all going through something- stop and be that compassionate ear that someone may need today-yes we are blessed to be a blessing!

And if we truly desire to live a life that is pleasing in the sight of our Savior, we must ask to be taught by the guidance of the Holy Spirit; “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Psalm 90:12. When we consider how short life is, it behooves us to  make every second count- devoting ourselves to the study and practice of God’s word…seeking true wisdom, which only comes from above. “For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2:6.

My friends, every single moment that God gives us- has a divine purpose; let us walk worthy of our calling, following where He leads, praying for His mercy, protection and amazing grace, resting in the assurance that He will keep, no succor us through the turmoils of this life; allowing us to  be bright lights in this dark world!

So I admonish you to appreciate and live this day-a precious gift from above in His power, presence and peace. This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24.

God blessings of peace, love, and joy to all.
