Is Your Spiritual House in Order?

“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” John 14:3.

You’ve just settled in for your favorite t.v. show and a snack…the doorbell rings, you wonder who in the world is that, I’m not expecting anyone. . . to your surprise it is a relative you haven’t seen for years. There are always those times when someone pops up for a visit unexpectedly! If you had known they would stop by, you would have certainly been ready, and placed everything in order in your home. In our spiritual lives, we have the promise of an unexpected visitor, death is not a stranger in this life; but it is always unexpected as to the exact date and time. ““And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.”

The tears that we shed at the passing of a loved one is natural, but we can rest in the comfort of Jesus’ words to His disciples, which still apply to every born-again believer today; our hope and assurance is built on living in His eternal presence. “And if I go and prepare a lace for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” John 14:3.

The promise is that He has prepared a place for us where He is…and one day He will return for all of His beloved children; but he did not say when… this is not a problem for the saved, but for the unsaved the question is when will you put your spiritual house in order today?

Death is inevitable; and while it is not a topic, we desire to linger on…It is true that the old will soon die, and the young may never get old; some choose to believe that when we die, everything cease to exist. That is not true; the good news is that there is life after death; our souls will return to our Creator God. The question is where will you spend eternity? “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23.

Sin separates us from God, and the only way to be reconciled to Him is through the atoning work of His only begotten Son our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The only difference between those of us who are saved and the unsaved is that we have accepted Jesus offer of salvation! “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20.

My friends, if you have not received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you have to agree that death is imminent, that is obvious all around us, you can go to any local cemetery and see the numerous tombstones; death is assured not only once but twice; and after the first death is a second death that totally separates the soul from God, the consequence is eternal damnation for all those who refuse to accept His free gift of salvation. “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Revelation 21:8.

For the saved, death only comes once, that is to shed off this physical body for an immortal, glorious body that will be ushered immediately in the presence of the Lord for all eternity… the Apostle Paul wrote “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8.

There is no greater decision to make in this life, then where you will spend eternity… God loves us and desires that no one should perish but have everlasting life. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Are you saved? If not, Jesus is standing at the door of your heart knocking…let Him in!

God blessings of peace and strength be with us all.
