Thanksgiving

“Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.” Psalm 95:2

Fond memories of Thanksgiving Day as a child meant family, friends and the smell of roast turkey, sweet potato pies and all sort of delicious dishes cooked by my mother. Oh yes, we knew the purpose was to give God thanks for all His many blessings; dad would assemble the family together before day and we would kneel around the living room sofa; he would pray and give God thanks for providing and protecting us throughout another year.

But as we all grew in the fear and the knowledge of the Lord, we learn that every day is a day of Thanksgiving… and just before each day, I still fall on my face and say thank you O God for your loving kindness, sustaining grace, and innumerable blessings. Psalm 95:2 state “Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.”

Every born-again believer has an intimate relationship with God; the longer we walk with Him and eat from the food of His table, the more we desire to give Him glory, honor, and thanks for all of His goodness and mercy. Matthew 5:8 tells us “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”

I am reminded of the Samaritan woman who had a life changing encounter with Jesus at the well “Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.” John 4:10. Jesus was offering her eternal life; and just like her, when we receive His living water our well will never run dry!

There is absolutely nothing that can nourish our souls like the Holy Spirit and the peace, joy, and love that He gives. Our only response should be one of total praise and thanksgiving to our Great and Almighty God, the giver and sustainer of life.

David expressed and extolled God in 1 Chronicles 29:11 “Thine, O Lord is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all.”

My friends as we enjoy the blessings of yet another year to spend in fellowship with loved ones and friends…. let us first humble ourselves in thanksgiving before the Lord…for truly God is good! “O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever..

God blessings of grace and peace be with us all.
