“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1.

It is quite easy to talk about peace, love, and joy when all things are going great, or we are having mountain top experiences; but way down deep in the valley, when things aren’t going just as we assumed …is when the sinew and grace of God must take hold-and comfort us beyond our own finite understanding. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1.

It is in that still quiet space in the depths of our souls, right in the midst of all our troubles, where God’s greatest gifts are given in compensation for our sufferings…He is so gracious that it is during those times that His love is on its greatest display and praise God…it is then that He teaches us to say, “it is well with my soul.”

God is the Father of all tender mercies, the Great Shepherd of the sheep-our protector, comforter, and lover of our souls.“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4.

My friends, hold on to the hope, comfort, and peace that only God can give. Yes…there will be times when the going gets rough, and you cannot seem to see your way through…but know that God is faithful to His promises, and we can rest in knowing that He is with us every step of the way!

Someone expressed the hardships of life in these words…God gives His toughest battles to His strongest soldiers; your present struggles are not meant to kill you but to make you stronger. And I am here to tell you that wherever your faith lies at this very moment…strong or weak the word of the Lord reminds us in Romans 8:28 that God’s got you… and He is working it all out for your good! “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

It is to Him that we must look for courage, insight, strength and direction to persevere through the circumstances of life-resting in His sweet peace that goes far beyond our understanding, which is able to keep us in sound mind and heart even in the lowest valley: “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33.

And most of all-I am so glad about it, that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ-is the author and finisher of our faith, the work that He has begun in all His beloved children…He will complete, we can cast all our cares on Him, because He cares for us! “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” 1 Peter 5:7.

So, whatever your lot-or circumstances are today- God knows, He loves you, and He is closer than the very air that we breathe…cling to His promises… for it is well!

When peace like a river, attendeth my way,

When sorrows like sea billows roll

Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say

It is well, it is well, with my soul
