My Souls Been Anchored!

Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;” Hebrews 6:19.

Anchor (agkura, Latin = ancora, an anchor) is a heavy weight of stone or metal attached to a rope or chain and dropped overboard to keep a ship from moving with the current. Ancient anchors were much like the modern ones with iron hooks to grapple the rocks and so hold on to prevent shipwreck. A vessel that is not securely anchored does not have much hope of riding out a violent storm. Figuratively, as used in Hebrews it speaks of that which provides security, support, stay, safeguard (as hope). The anchor refers to the hope generated by faith in the gospel which enables the believer to stand firm in face of temptations, calamities, and storms. – Wuest Greek Commentary

God’s amazing grace through Jesus Christ our Lord provides for us the “anchor” to which our very souls grips and clings to through the storms of life. Our security is in His sovereignty; It is a sure hope. 1 Peter 1:21 states: “Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.”

Though the storms often blow vehemently in our lives, we can keep our eyes fixed on the distant shore where our heavenly Father leads. Storms can be dangerous and seem to engulf us as though we may drown, but Jesus holds us safe and secure; and gently whispers to our souls that all is well. “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;” Hebrews 6:19.

Know this… that just as the anchor that is under the sea and invisible to the eye from the shore… yet it holds those giant ships, from being tossed off course…in God’s Word we have an anchor of our souls that keeps us steadfast and unmovable forever!

I do not know about you today… but my soul is anchored in the Lord, and I pray that your soul has been anchored in His loving care as well… praise God, that even the winds and the waves that will toss us to and fro… must obey His divine will; He simple commands…Peace be still, and it is so.

What do you need for Jesus to command to be still in your life today? Know that it is already done…and we can rest assured that there is nothing impossible with God . . .  I can hear the comforting lyrics of Doulas Millers’ song “My Soul has been Anchored,”  it brings peace and joy to my heart to the the truth that my soul is anchored in the Lord!

Though the storms keep on raging in my life
And sometimes it’s hard to tell my night from day
Still that hope that lies within is reassured
As I keep my eyes upon the distant shore;
I know He’ll lead me safely to that
Blessed place He has prepared

But if the storms don’t cease
And if the wind keeps on blowing, (in my life)
My soul has been anchored in the Lord

My friends, let us grip and hold to the Anchor of our souls…  remaining steadfast in the sure hope that He alone gives to all His beloved children; He will never leave us, nor forsake us, and He will keep us safe in His everlasting arms now and forever!

To God be the glory! Blessings and peace to all.
