I Really Love the Lord!

“I love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live.” Psalms 116: 1-2

The old gospel hymn that goes…”I really love the Lord, I really love the Lord, you don’t know what He’s done for me…He gave me the victory, and I love Him, I love Him…I really love the Lord!” it speaks volumes from my own heart! When we love someone with all our whole heart, soul, and mind, we empty ourselves of every emotion and thought to please and satisfy our beloved- in hopes that it is returned. But this type of love is what the Greek terminology names eros; Eros is a Greek word which means desire and is used for a husband and wife’s love, a physical and sensual love; but the love that the songwriter expresses from the heart exceeds anything that you or I can even imagine…it is the love of God-it is unconditional, sacrificial and eternal- it is agape love!

God commands that we love Him with all our heart and soul… “And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,” Deuteronomy 10:12. Love for God goes far beyond a feeling-but is an action; the truth is we cannot know love without knowing God… “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” 1 John 4:10.

God’s love is immeasurable, incomparable and everlasting; praise God that He loves us so much that He went to a place called Golgotha and died on an old rugged cross-and He got up with all power on that third day morning…just for you and me! Hallelujah!

David in the 116th Psalm gives thanksgiving and praise in response to the mercy and love of God towards him. “I love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live.” Psalms 116: 1-2; He expresses his love because of who God is and what God has done for him! God the Creator of the universe heard his voice and answered his prayers; therefore, he resolved to continually call on the Lord.

What about you and me?  God loves us, hears our cries, and He answers every time according to His will. His mercy is extended towards us every single day “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23. We too with gladness of heart and soul should humble ourselves and show forth our love towards Him—I am not sure about you…but when I think about the goodness of God and what He’s  has done for me . . . I can’t help but love Him!

What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me? I will take the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the Lord.” Psalm 116:12-13 … My friends, I really love the Lord, all to Him I owe and I surrender all- what about you?

God’s love and amazing grace keep you in prefect peace always.
