Hearing with Your Heart
“While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.” Matthew 17:5
I’ve ofter heard it said that God purposely gave us one mouth and two ears so that we can listen more! Listening – particularly in respect to our communication with God, it involves paying close attention with the purpose of understanding and heeding the message- with not only our ears but also our heart, ultimately leading to obedience and action. “And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.: Mark 4:24.
God knows how to reach all of His beloved children. There are occasions in the Bible where God spoke audibly to someone; however, this is an exception to the rule…but because He is God, He is not confined to a single manner of communicating with His people; yet note that scripture clearly tells us that He does speaks through His Word. “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;” Hebrews 1:1-2.
The Apostle John goes further and explains “And the Word was made flesh, an dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” John 1:14. This is none other than Jesus Christ-the Bread of Life-the King of kings and Lord of lords-God manifested in the flesh-He is the Word of God!
Every born-again believer is enlightened by the power of the Holy Ghost; He guides, corrects, instructs, and comforts us. YES, my friends God speaks to our hearts…we must be willing to listen. “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” John 12:26.
Are you yearning to hear a word from the Lord? Then follow the audible instructions of God to Peter, James, and John on the Mount of Transfiguration… “While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.” Matthew 17:5. Hear ye Him!
If you call, He will answer. ”Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” Jeremiah 33:3. Communication is a two-way street; either we call and come seeking, asking for the petitions that we need, or He calls, providing words that comfort, instruct, correct, lead and bless our very soulsl“And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:” Deutoronomy 28:1-2. My friends, open your heart, quietly waiting to hear and He will speak!
May the joy and peace of the Lord fill our souls all throughout this day!
