Our Good Intentions

“If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 4:11

The tongue is such a small member of our body, but so powerful . . . have you ever said things that were meant to be intentionally good, or made in a jovial, lighthearted manner – but never mean-spirited? I surmise that we all have at one time or the other…but we must be so careful, because there are times when what you have conveyed is misunderstood and taken out of context. “Every way of a man [is] right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.” Proverbs 21:2. Thankfully, it is God who searches our hearts, and He knows more than anything else the intent of our thoughts and actions.

A word to the wise, watch what you say…let us humble ourselves, praying and seeking God for His wisdom and guidance in all that we think, say, and do, for it is unto Him that we must be found pleasing; David in Psalm 19:14 prayed for God to grant Him grace and strength so that his actions and thoughts were acceptable in His sight. “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.”

While we live in this mortal body, we combat with the presence of sin. But we are not alone, the Holy Spirit’s power lives within all of God’s beloved children, helping us to make the right choices; He faithfully reminds us of God’s word, our anchor, sword, and guiding light. 1 Timothy 3:16 state “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” My father would say “the bible is our prescription for life.”

We must remain steadfast and faithful in searching the scriptures, meditating, praying, and following the guidance of the Holy Spirit. When our hearts are intent to please God, and we desire the sincere milk of the word; we will be more apt to follow where He leads. “But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” Hebrews 13:16.

So, let us commit all our intentions to the Lord, and prayerfully, others will see His goodness within our hearts “If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 4:11.

Finally, my friends, this walk of faith is not one of ease, but it is a continuous process…and it is certainly a truism on which every child of God can stand, God is not through with me yet! “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” 1 John 3:2.

God blessings and peace today and always…stay in the word!
