Little Becomes Much
“Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.” Matthew 13:31-32.
The mustard seed is quite small-the seed is only .075 inches in diameter and can produce a shrub as tall as fifteen feet tall! the Parable of the Mustard Seed found in the book of Matthew Chapter Thirteen, it relates the theme of a small beginning that produces great results! “Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.” Matthew 13:32.
The Kingdom of God began very humbly, note that a lowly carpenter in Nazareth and His twelve disciples incited the greatest Christian moment ever! The message… the Gospel of Christ or the Good News, brings blessings to all who will receive the free gift of God’s amazing grace through Jesus Christ, our Lord. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:” Ephesians 1:3.
We often miss our blessings overlooking small humble beginnings-by looking for that which we consider to be greater… the old gospel song reminds us to count your blessings, name them one by one, count your blessings and see what God hath done!
The enemy of our soul desires to place seeds of doubt, greed, and negativity in our hearts, rendering us unappreciative in all that we already have… let us stay focused, recognizing that we are blessed among millions of others in the world. “I cried because I had no shoes, until I saw a man with no feet.”
I am readily reminded of I Kings Chapter 17:8-17. It’s the account of a poor widow woman and her son during a famine in the land. At this juncture in the scripture we find her taking all the little resources she had left to feed her and her son. It appeared to be their last meal…she assumed their demise was imminent. But, the Lord sent the prophet Elijah her way to sustain her, the child and himself.
At her hesitance, the prophet told her to make a little cake for him first…“And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.” 1 Kings 17:13-14. Obedience brings blessings my friends!
The bible gives evidence that the tiny portion of meal and oil that she had never fail to yield an increase throughout the entire famine-what a mighty God we serve! “And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days. And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.” I Kings 17: 15-16. God is faithful-if He promises it will come to pass!
What do you have that appears small and insignificant-whether it is your time, talents, or treasures, be thankful and entrust it all in the hands of the Lord, He will bless according to all that He has promised-watch how He miraculously turns your little into much! “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,” Ephesians 3:20.
God amazing grace and joy to all.
