Make it Count

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.” Ecclesiates 3:2.

A dear brother in Chist sings in our church choir… I can hear “Brother Ron” ruboustly singing these words in my mind  “it’s my season…to be blessed!” so exactly what is he signing about…in the biblical context  a season can be defined as a period of time that we go through in life- we go through seasons  of sadness, loss, joy, newness, and growth. My friends…eveything that we experience in this finite existence changes!

The question to consider regardless to what “season” of life that we’re in…is how do we “Make if Count?”  first let us consult the word of the Lord…Ecclesiastes chapter 3 states: “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.” Ecclesiates 3:1-2.

Everything and everyone has a God given purpose, He is sovereign and has predetermined the times and seasons of Life. It is important to recognize and know where we are both physically and spiritually on this journey of life. It is a sad commentary for a seventy year old to try and still live life as an eighteen year old…but both have so much work to be done in the upbuilding of God’s kingdom-they’re just in a different seasons!

God has equipped us with all that we need to make our lives count in a way that He gets the glory. Galatians 5:22-23 states:  “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”

The Holy Spirit makes all difference for us to live Christlike-to let our lights shine in this dark world. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16. Christ in us makes all the difference!

So, go out today and make it count! “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” Galatians 6:10. It’s a call to action my sisters and brothers, urging us to seize opportunities to serve and bless others- are you willing to let God use you to be a blessing?

A stanza from the poem A Psalm of Life states:

Lives of great men all remind us

We can make our lives sublime,

And, departing, leave behind us

Footprints on the sands of time.

                                                      -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

We should seek to live our lives in alignment with our God given purpose, making a lasting impact on the world around us- in other words, make it count. This is what Christ does in us and through us when we yield to the Spirit and let Him have, His way.

God blessings of peace and grace to all!
