I Remember Mama in a Happy Way!

My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:” Proverbs 6:20″.

I thank God for  loving, no-nonsense, and baptized in the Holy Ghost parents. Shirley Ceasar’s gospel hymn makes me think of my mom today- the inspiration song states-I remember mama in a happy way! In July of 2019, my mom went home to be with the Lord. My parents would often say “you don’t miss your water until your well runs dry.” So true, there are many days that I miss that old lady; and of course, tears will fall but God’s comforting grace keeps me anchored in His sweet peace- and the ability to remember mama and all that she taught me in a happy way! “My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:” Proverbs 6:20″.

I praise God every day for her and my father bringing me and my siblings up in a god-fearing home where we were taught to love God, one another and others. Yes, there was certainly lots of discipline- my mom didn’t play the radio…she would tear you out the frame with plum tree switches and my dad was soft spoken but sounded like the commercial in the late 80’s promoted- when EF Hutton spoke people listened! They lovingly admonished us to be and do something that makes a difference in this world and never forget that only what we do for Christ will last.“And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4.

My heart lingers on the things that were instilled in me of noteworthy consideration about life in general and give meaning to having a closer walk with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. So, I smile though tears come in desire to have  her near…but joy in knowing that she knew our Savior and is safe in His arms!

The following are  words written from my mom’s journey entitled:  “Most important lessons that I’ve learned until now…” Written by: Dr. Dorothy F. Ward:

  • Do not talk too much.
  • Learn to listen more.
  • Give your all to Christ.
  • Love your neighbor as yourself.
  • Know that your children and their children have given their lives to Christ only.
  • Attend Church and help further the gospel.
  • Take nothing for granted.
  • Live life through the power of Christ.
  • Treasure the Lord first, family and friends second.
  • Do not allow education to control you.
  • Things are given to us from God to enjoy or use; wear them loosely.
  • Do not stress out!
  • Love Christ with all your soul, mind, and body. (2009)
  • I still do and will continually throughout my life. (2014)

I pray that the lessons learned from my mom will  also admonish you to have a closer walk with our Savior and guide your children in the way of LORD; in the final analysis that is all that counts! “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” Micah 6:8.

God blessings of joy and peace be with us all!
