Stand Still

“Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you.” 2 Chronicles 20:17

You hear a crash or unexplained movement in the wee hours of the morning, that feeling of urgency to run and see where the sound came from, but you stand very still waiting to see what happens next. What happens in those nanoseconds? I am not sure about you, but for me it is fervent prayer for God’s protection and listening for the Holy Spirit to guide me in the next steps!

King Jehoshaphat in the book of 2 Chronicles prayed to God about the enemies that were about to attack the children of Israel. He called them a great company that had risen up against them “O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.” 2 Chronicles 20:12. It appeared to be an impossible situation and they had no earthly idea what to do, but their eyes were on the Lord!

God never fails! He came through and answered the prayer of Jehoshaphat that day, “Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you.” 2 Chronicles 20:17. The only action that they needed to take was to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, as He alone delivered them!

Everything that we encounter and set out to do should be a matter of prayer. Our eyes too must be on the Lord. Psalm 46: 10 state “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” In stillness we can meditate, pray, and hear the instructions of the Lord as He leads us in the right direction. And like Jehoshaphat, sometimes we do not need to fight in the battle…just stand still and keep our focus on the Lord.

Let us rest in the joy and comfort of knowing that we serve the one true and living God who has all power in His hands; Jehoshaphat stated in 2 Chronicles 20:6 “And said, O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?”

Our Great and Almighty God is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore! Whatever you need this day or no matter the circumstances, stand still and know that God will answer and deliver. . . “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” Romans 8:37

Peace, blessing and God’s amazing grace keep you always.
