Center Stage

“Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.  It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.” Proverbs 3:7-8

In my minds eye I can still hear some of the hilarious sayings my father or mother would use to get a point across . . . one of those when my siblings and I were being disciplined was – “you’re getting a little too big for your britches aren’t you!” Lol, I can laugh now, but you better believe there was nothing comical in their tonality! Sometimes God must remind us that we are getting a little too big for our britches or beside our self with pride. Proverbs 3:7-8 state “Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.”

The enemy of our souls is very subtle and cunning, he knows just how to sneak into our thoughts and heighten in us a sense of praiseworthiness for a good deed, or achievement in ministry. Ultimately his goal is to take our praise and worship off God and replace it with self-centeredness. The Word of God admonishes us in Philippians 2:3-4 “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”

No one ever said that this walk of faith would be easy; we are in a spiritual battle every single day of our lives. Satan desires to destroy us and steal God’s glory. But praise God, we have our divine comforter that lives within…guiding, correcting and lovingly pointing us in the right direction 1 John 4:4 state “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”

A humble and devoted heart recognizes who has center stage…to our Almighty and Sovereign God belongs the glory in all things. We are unable to survive one second without the very air that God gives us to breathe. Therefore, whatever we do or achieve is only by His amazing grace. Let us pray daily for the Holy Spirit to empower us to walk in His will, stay vigilant in the fight and boldly proclaim that all blessings flow from the great mercy and loving-kindness of God.

Blessings and peace to all; stay on guard, watch your steps, and give God the glory!
