Choose You This Day!

“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15

Every day we make decisions in life, some favourable and others that are not so favorable; the outcome of our choices are dependent on who or what we allow to guide our hearts, minds, and souls. There are three spirits that we are all inclined to follow through life, the Spirit of God, the Spirit of the world or the Spirit of man. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:11-12.

My friends, Joshua 24:15 gives a clear choice for us all…choose you this day whom ye will serve! “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

So, I ask you…who’s running your life? Joshua chose to stand on the Lord side, but there are also examples of those who chose to follow evil. The King Ahab of Israel was influenced by His evil, malicious and unbelieving wife Jezebel. She dominated Ahab and literally controlled his kingdom. The bible state “But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the Lord, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.” 1 Kings 21:25

In both occurrences the evidence is obvious, Joshua chose to live for God and was mightily used by God to lead the children of Israel into the Promise land after the death of Moses; Ahab was not as fortunate . . . the prophet Elijah pronounced evil upon him because he sold himself to work evil in the sight of God and Jezebel was literally eaten by the dogs in Jezreel. But we must put a pin in it right there, isn’t it a blessing that God knows the heart of every man… even in the midst of our messes God is still gracious and merciful, He delayed the punishment of Ahab, 1 Kings 21:29 state Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son’s days will I bring the evil upon his house.”

God’s love is unconditional and His grace is sufficient. I ask you again – who’s running your life? There is no middle of the road, you will either choose to live an obedient life, surrendered to the power and majesty of Almighty God, who provides goodness and mercy forever or you will follow the  greatest foe and adversary of our souls that old serpent the devil.  “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” 1 Peter 5:8.

I decided a long time ago to make Jesus my choice and I stand on the words in Joshua 24:15 “but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Now, choose you this day whom ye will serve . . . the old gospel hymn says it all:

Some folk would rather have houses and land.

Some folk choose silver and gold.

These things they treasure and forget about their souls;

I’ve decided to make Jesus my choice.

God’s grace and mercy be with you all-choose ye this day whom you will serve!
