Somethings are Needful

“Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.” John 13:7

We encounter things in life that we are not able to rationalize; they appear to be awry. The disciples were taken off guard and confused when Jesus, their Lord and Master began to wash their feet. But Jesus answered unto Simon Peter who questioned the necessity of the Lord washing his feet “Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.” John 13:7

I am not sure about you, but there are times in my life, especially in times like these, that I do not fully understand the rationale of the Holy Spirit’s leading. Yet, scripture reminds us in Isaiah 55: 8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

God is sovereign and all things are orchestrated by the divine counsel of His will. He knows the way that we should go, our response should be to humble ourselves before God and obey His leading. Just as the disciples, we may not always understand His ways, but somethings are needful. The disciples needed to understand an especially important concept as Jesus prepared to face the cross 1) that they were washed and cleaned through Him . . . apart of Him and 2) if He the Lord and Master of all could humble Himself and wash their feet; they must follow in example and lovingly serve others.

No, we may not always understand His ways, but if we absolutely love the Lord, and trust in His sovereignty…we can claim the promises in His Word . . . a few that comes to mind are:

  1. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Psalm 37:23
  2. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
  3. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: John 10:27
  4. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10
  5. But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. Job 23:10

To God be the glory in all things; He is forming each of His beloved children into the image of our Lord and Savior; let us trust where He leads…as the saying goes, we may not be able to trace His hands, but we can certainly trust His heart. He knows exactly what is needful and as the old folk would sing:

By and by, when the morning comes,

When the saints of God are gathered home,

We’ll tell the story how we’ve overcome,

For we’ll understand it better by and by.

Every born-again believer can joyfully proclaim Romans 8:38-39 “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

God’s comforting joy and peace be with you always.

Needless to say, this has said a lot. Humble ourselves according to God’s words.
God knows us better that we know ourselves.
    Be blessed.
💕 Ya Sis, and thanks again for God’s word. Truly a blessing.
