If you have ever watched an infant when just beginning to walk, they often fall and bump into things; of course, they take off running with a smile and search for help when they fall and wind up in tears; clumsily and unsure at first, but soon they learn to watch for obstacles in their way. The Apostle Paul admonished the saints in Ephesus to watch how they walked as true believers. “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,” Ephesians 5:15.

Just as the infant falls due to obstacles in his/her way, we live in a fallen or sinful world full of dangers, deceptions, and temptations; if we are not cautious and attentive to what is happening around us and in us, we can easily fall headfirst into the Satan’s traps to destroy us. The idea is not so much of keeping and eye on the evil and difficulties around us but being circumspect to our own thoughts and actions. In the original Greek, the phrase translated as “walk circumspectly” means “to watch or look carefully at how you live, to be vigilant and mindful of your behavior, to be on the lookout.” – gotquestions.org.

Paul begins Ephesians chapter five admonishing the saints to be followers of God and to walk in love; “And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. As true believers and those saved by the amazing grace of God, it should be our earnest desire to live each day that He gives us in His divine will, yielding the peaceable fruit of the Holy Spirit Galatians 5:22-23 state “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”

Time is a precious commodity; and yet it can be wasted trying to live in the expectations of the world; scripture admonishes us to “Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.” As dear children of God we should be examples of His unfailing love; what does the world sees in our walk and talk? Let us look in the mirror and make sure our reflection resembles our Savior, Jesus Christ.

We must take every opportunity that the Holy Spirit affords us to be lights in this dark world, following the will of God; we should not be copying the world, but the world should be copying us…so let us humbly yield to God’s transforming power to mold us after His will and way. Romans 12:2 state “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
