Faith Comes by Hearing

Faith Comes by Hearing

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17.

A young man’s voice was in shock and proclaiming on a phone conversation that Memphis rapper Young Dolph, had just been shot twenty minutes prior. There were police cars, other bystanders, and the noise of the scene as evidence of the murder on the video clip I was watching on Facebook. I immediately searched the name of the person presumed shot and killed to be assured the incident was true, and unfortunately, it was a fact that the young rapper had been killed only a couple of hours prior in his hometown.

I heard the young man, and on searching, I was able to hear the news commentary report the incident; therefore, I was able to believe the unfortunate report about the young man. Hearing the report from a credible news source was key; the bible, God’s holy word tells us that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Faith is the ability to see and believe that which we otherwise could not see. Hebrews 11:1 state “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” We must have faith to walk this journey of life and to live in eternity with God, we must be saved.

God’s word tells us exactly what we must do to be saved; are you asking saved from what? It is truth that we are all born into sin that separates us from God, it is an acquired immune disease, which will eventually take us all out one day. Sin brings death and death is a separation of the soul from God. The word of the Lord came unto the prophet Ezekiel saying “Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.” Ezekiel 18:4.

God loves us far beyond what our minds can comprehend, and the only provision for our salvation from damnation, is through the atoning blood of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16.

This earthly house will be on fire one day my friends, and the only fire escape is Jesus…. Are you willing to jump into safety or perish throughout all eternity? We need to stop playing games and falling for the enemy’s ploy to make us think everything is okay, just live your life to the fullest, don’t worry be happy and when you die, life ceases and nothing happens; the truth is that hell is real and without salvation our souls will spend eternity in damnation without God. But praise God everlasting life is free “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:” Ephesians 2:8.

At 36 years old, Adolph Thornton Jr., knowns as Young Dolph, had no idea he would lose his life inside Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies on North Airways Boulevard in Memphis. None of us know the time or the hour that our number will be called, but we can make provisions to live for all eternity. Won’t you except eternal life today? Jesus is calling “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20.

May God’s comforting love and peace be with the family and loved ones of that young man.
