Help My Unbelief
“And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” Mark 9:24.
Faith brings spiritual visibility to that which is impossible to see. The bible teaches us “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1. The word substance is defined as a physical matter that has a tangible, solid presence. Our faith creates spiritual substance and present reality to those things we are unable to see; but it is crucial to note that our faith is not just in anything or anyone; we must have faith in God, who is omnipotent and able to do all things. “But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26.
Mark chapter nine gives the account of Jesus healing a child who was taken over by a dumb spirit since his birth. The father of the child had brought him to the disciples, but they were unable to help him; but when he saw Jesus, the scriptura tells us that he brought him unto Him, asking for Jesus to give compassion and help in this time of need, telling him of the agonizing state of his child from birth, Jesus immediately answers the concerns of the man “Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” Mark 9:24-25.
The state of the child’s healing, and his request from Jesus was now left up to the actions of the father…he had to believe that it was possible even in this dire circumstance for his son to be healed….and he cried out with tears, Lord, I believe, help thou mine unbelief! Jesus healed his son immediately.
I can imagine in my minds eye that man pleading with Jesus and saying, Lord, I believe, but even in my weakest state, I need you to strengthen me and give me the faith to believe as I should…I need your help for there is no other help I know! We too fall in devastating circumstances at times that can attack us at our very core; but praise God we only need to cry out to the Lord, help thou mine unbelief!
My friends, God’s grace is sufficient for our every need, He knows just how much we can bear, and He will help us in times of weakness, despondency and even unbelief. We must believe wholeheartedly, that there is absolutely nothing too hard for God…we can trust Him to provide, keep and succor us not just now…but forever!
God blessings of peace and grace be with us all…hold on He is coming through!
