Spiritual Unity

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” Psalm 133:1

It is pleasing and refreshing when brethren dwell together in unity. Unification does not mean that we must agree on every single issue; however, it does mean that we agree in the spirit of love on those things that are fundamental to our faith.

These are fundamental truths that every born-again believer share as the body of Christ:

One God and Heavenly Father: we all have the same God and Heavenly Father.

One Lord: our Divine Ruler is God’s only begotten Son, our Savior Jesus Christ.

One Spirit – The Holy Spirit our comforter, guide and sustainer keep and empowers us until the day of redemption.

One Faith – we have all trusted in Christ finished work on the cross and His resurrection for our salvation.

One Baptism –Through God’s miraculous spiritual baptism in our lives, the Holy Spirit immediately indwells the believer at the moment of salvation.

One Body – We are The Church- the body of baptized believers.

One Hope – We all share in the same Christian assurance and certainty that we are headed to our heavenly destination to live with the Lord throughout eternity.

The psalmist speaks of unity as the oil that ran down the priest Aaron’s beard. The anointing oil that was poured on the priest had a sweet-smelling savor; it ran from his head, down his beard and all the way to the edge of his robe. This aroma was not only smelt by the priest, but by everyone that that was around him.

The anointing of oil in the O.T. (Old Testament) symbolized that he was empowered and appointed by God; today it represents the anointing of the Holy Spirit in the lives of all saints; the anointing of the Holy Spirit is the pleasant aroma that should arise from our lives to one another when we dwell together in unity and are living testimonies to God’s power and amazing grace in the world!

“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.” Acts 2:1-2. The promise of the Lord had come just as He said it would. All those in the room were filled with the blessing and power of the Holy Ghost. They were now able to go forth and fulfill the Great Commission. Every born-again believer is also filled with the blessings and power of the Holy Ghost.

Our lives should be the channels in which God’s love, peace, comfort, and mercy flow through to others as evident that we, just like Aaron, are a part of a royal priesthood, and we walk this journey of life empowered and anointed by the unconditional love of God!

God blessings of love and grace be with you all.
