Check Your Heart!

“For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.” Mark 12:44.

Have you ever had a heart’s desire to give to someone in need, and you stop and thought, but Lord, the bills are far past due, I have only a small amount to make it through until the next paycheck? But the tug is still placed on your heart and the Holy Spirit lovingly reminds you that all that you have comes from the Hand of the Lord, and He shall supply for all your needs. “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19.

The account of the widow’s mite serves to provide an eye-opening lesson in love for those who have plenty as well as those who may lack in relation to riches. As Jesus sat by the treasury, he called his disciples to what I call a teachable moment. He pointed out those who in there pious and self-righteousness gave alms of great amounts…but a poor widow woman came along and cast in all that she possessed, two mites…a farthing, an exceedingly small coin of little worth. “For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.” Mark 12:44.

This poor woman gave all that she had, and it was given from a heart of love. It behooves us to remember that God sees our hearts, our motives for giving or doing whatever we do for Him. Those who cast in much and were seeking to be acknowledged for their enormous giving…missed the mark and the bible state shall receive greater damnation. “And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts: Which devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.” Mark 12: 39-40.

But self-denying love gives beyond what seems impossible for a mere man, that widow’s mite, the smallest amount that was given that day was worth more than all who gave; God values what comes from the heart of a man, whether rich or poor. “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7.

Let us do a heart check today, and if by chance we may think that we lack in sufficiency to help provide in a time of need; God help us to remember that it is not about the amount given, but about the heart in which we give that matters most. 2 Corinthians 8:12 state “For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.”

God blessings and peace to all.

Amen. There is no greater gift than JESUS dying on a cross so that we might have life eternal. As a result of His love for us, our giving and care for one another should come from the heart. So let us love one another as Jesus loved us and gave us His ultimate gift , life eternal.
