The Right Choices

“Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.” Romans 6:12.

Every born-again believer is saved from the penalty of sin, which is death and eternal damnation; however, we live in the presence of sin as long as we live in this mortal body. Yet, we are blessed with the precious gift and power of the Holy Spirit that dwells within our hearts; He leads and guides us in the right choices that we should make. “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. “Romans 6:12.

God’s Word is a light unto our pathway…it constantly shines the spotlight on sin and leads us in the path of righteousness. I am constantly reminded of my father’s admonishment to stay faithful and committed to the learning and application of God’s Word. He would say “the bible is our prescription for life.” I took that to mean it is medicine that we should take daily; it tells us what to believe, shows us when we are wrong, corrects us and grows us into spiritual maturity. 1 Timothy 3:16 state “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”

God loves us so much that He gave us a free will; we choose of our own recognizance to make the right or wrong choices; The enemy of our souls, is lurking near to place landmines of greed, jealousy, pride among other unprofitable thoughts and actions in our pathway; it is His desires to destroy not only our witness, but our very souls. He uses the things that momentarily satisfy the mind and body. “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” 1 John 2:16.

When we error in word or deed, the Holy Spirit convicts our hearts…the choice is with us, do we agree with Him and turn to follow His corrective measures, or continue on the wrong path that will lead to physical and spiritual consequences?

Let us be mindful of the things we contemplate …our thoughts and words become actions. Are they words and actions that are profitable to our spiritual growth and edification to the body of Christ? The Word of God states “Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour.” Ephesians 5:1-2.

My friends, it is imperative that we set out to make the right choices along this journey called life; search the scriptures, meditate, pray, and follow where the Holy Spirit leads. Remember that we are a work in progress, as long as we are present on this side of life… we are subject to mess up; but the presence of sin in this world is not an escape clause for the children of God to blatantly follow…The Apostle Paul stated: “Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.” 1 Corinthians 6:15.

We are new creatures in Christ, empowered with the ability to let His Word richly dwell within us…we can make the right choices and shine as bright lights in this dark world; when we truly commit all our thoughts, words, and actions unto to the Lord, we will experience His peace, mercy, and goodness forever!

God blessings and peace today and always…stay in the Word!
