Finding Peace

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7

Worry, indecision, fear, unrest, and the list could go on. These are things that steal our peace and soundness of mind. Where and how can we find true peace? It certainly does not come from the worldly comforts that we can dare to find or even possess. Those things are only temporary and leave us ultimately lacking the peace that we are searching for. However, the bible gives us the answer in Philippians 4:7 “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” True peace can only be found in God.

Life is full of ups and downs, there is always sunshine and rain; it is a true saying that we are either going through something, coming out of something, or headed into something! This however does not dismay the child of God; we know by faith that “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.” Psalm 37:23. Our lives are lovingly orchestrated by God’s omniscience and every circumstance is growing us into what He has designed for us to be. So, when things get tough and threaten to steal our peace, how should we handle it?

Our first recourse is to go directly to our Heavenly Father in prayer. He will give us the comfort and guidance that we need to run this race in patience and confidence. Some may surmise that if He already knows what we need, why pray? Prayer opens or hearts in communication with God; it helps us to hear a word of hope from the Lord, especially in those insurmountable situations.

Prayer is more for us than God . . . it shows our dependence on Him to provide, sustain and succor us through life’s circumstances; humbling us to His sovereignty and helping us to trust in His faithfulness. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” 1 John 5:14-15.

Let us earnestly seek to find the peace and comfort in knowing that we serve the One true and living God, the Great I AM…and there is absolutely no problem too big for Him to handle; and praise God, He will always exceed our greatest imaginations to answer our humble cries… as the Apostle Paul stated in Ephesians 3:20-21: “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”
