Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread

“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.;” Matthew 6:34.

Are you grappling with the thought of how to make provisions for something that you desperately need? Have faith in God-and rest in the assurance that He always provides for His beloved children! The scripture teaches us to ask for what we need. “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:” Matthew 7:7.

God already knows what we need, but there is a humbling lesson to be learn by asking; we must trust in His omnipotence to faithfully provide. In the Lords’ Prayer we find six different petitions. The first three places our focus on God alone and His sovereignty; it speaks of His glory, kingdom and will. The last three speaks of those things that we need to walk in peace and obedience on this journey of life.

We are admonished to come boldly before the throne of grace and ask for what we need Matthew 6:11 state “Give us this day our daily bread.” Why not ask for the entire week’s supply of bread?  We must never fail to remember that God is the Creator of all things; it is through Him that all things exist …He is our divine supplier every single day of our lives!

Exodus 16:13 gives the account of the Israelites and God’s faithful provisions for His people; He rained down manna from Heaven for them to eat. “I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.”.

Obedience does bring blessings- they were given specific directions on how much to take and consume. When they followed God directions each man had exactly what was needed proportionately for him and his family; they were specifically instructed to take only what they needed for the day. Out of disobedience some tried to store up more than a days’ portion and the worms ate it up by morning. God desires that we trust in His faithfulness.

Psalm 34:10 state “The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.” Just as the Israelites, we are to obediently follow His commands, He will never cease to care and provide for His beloved children!

Are you depending on God to ensure that you have all that you need today? I can attest that God is faithful and true; He has always and will continue to provide for His children; His love is unconditional, and we can depend on Him!

So, humbly go before the Lord, asking for what you need this day… He will faithfully answer. “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” Matthew 6:34.

God blessings of peace, comfort, and love be with you all!
