On Time

“And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.” Genesis 24:15

When I think of the element of time and the necessity of being on time; my mind goes to my great-aunt Josephine Copeland, who lived in Philadelphia, Pa. It was always a pleasure to ride the train up north every summer with my mom and siblings to visit “Snookie” as we called her. She was an RN for Germantown Hospital for as long as I can remember. Snookie was wonderful, but slow…she was late all the time. The one day that she arrived to work on time, she slipped up the stairs to the hospital and broke her legs! We all as humans have our faults, but I am so glad to tell you this morning that God is never late and always on time!

In Genesis chapter twenty-four we find the account of Abraham’s faithful servant Eliezer. Abraham sent Eliezer to seek out and find the God appointed bride for his only son Isaac. Eliezer set out on his journey, he stopped at a well in Mesopotamia and kneeled to pray for God’s guidance and insight. He specifically asked God to show him the young damsel that would be the bride for Isaac. The scripture tells us “And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.” Genesis 24:15. God is amazing and goes beyond our greatest imagination; before Eliezer had even finished speaking or praying …God sent the answer.

What is on your heart today? God hears the sincere cries of His children. Jeremiah 33:3 state “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” God is faithful to His promises and His mercy is extended towards us every day. It does not matter how small or great we feel our need is …He will come through in due time!

So, when things seem far beyond what we can humanly reach; we can depend on God to hold us in His powerful hands; just like in the account of Eliezer…  while we are yet praying, seeking His guidance, and loving protection- God has already performed His perfect will in the circumstance.

Let us begin this new day, casting every care at the foot of the cross… God hears our calls, and it is already done according to His will and timing. My friends, He is faithful to His promises…. we can wait on God. “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.” Psalm 27:14.

God blessings of peace, joy, and strength be with us all.
