Total Separation or Eternal Life
“For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality” 1 Corinthians 15:53.
There is absolutely nothing in this world that is more important than the secured status of our eternal existence. We live in a physical, mortal body, and it is evident all around us that there is a separation from the body at some juncture called death. 1 Corinthians 15:53 state: “For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.”
The fact is God created us and we belong to Him. Genesis 2:7 state “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” We all have a specific purpose to fulfilled in this life . . . God is sovereign and is the only giver and taker of life. “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” Hebrews 9:27.
So, how do we avoid total separation from God? First, we must understand four spiritual laws that must guide our lives:
- God loves us: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
- Man is sinful and separated from God: “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23.
- Jesus Christ is the only provision for man’s sin: “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6.
- We must individually receive Jesus as our Savior and Lord. “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” John 1:12.
When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, Adam’s punishment was as follows: “In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return” Genesis 3:19. Sin brought death to mankind. This is the first death; however, by God’s amazing grace and unconditional love, He prepared the way of salvation for all men: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16. Jesus bore our sins on the cross that we might have the gift of eternal life.
It is a choice that we all must make; God gave each of us a free will. If we do not choose to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior then our souls will pay the penalty and suffer damnation and total separation from God, which is the second death. “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Revelation 21:8.
We take great pains in planning out our futures, ensuring that we can live comfortably in our older years and definitely leave an inheritance for our children. However, seeing that none of these things really belong to us and none of us know the hour that God will require our souls, does your great plan include receiving the inheritance that our heavenly Father has prepared for all of His children? “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” John 14:3.
God’s gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord, is an incorruptible inheritance for all of His children…won’t you accept Him today and receive the blessing of eternal life? “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,” 1 Peter 1:3-4.
