Peace, I Leave with You
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27.
Everybody wants peace…I can hear the spiritual hymn being sung by the choir-“Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.” and as much as we desire peace, the fact is, it does not begin with us! The old cliché’ tells the whole truth of the matter . . . “No Jesus, No Peace…Know Jesus, Know Peace!”
Peace begins with having a right relationship with God, which can only be achieved by faith in Jesus Christ our Lord… “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1.
My friends, Jesus is our peace. Ephesians 2:14 state “For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;” Because He lives…we can face tomorrow!
On the night of the Last Supper Jesus spoke with the disciples, preparing them for His departure…He left these comforting words as He was headed to face the cross-“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27.
The peace that the world offers is fleeting and materialistic…things, money, recognitions, successful endeavors…but Jesus gives that which is eternal and everlasting. “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
Christ dwelling in us through the power of the Holy Ghost gives us the power to run this Christian race-fear and anxiety of the unknown is alleviated through Him alone…He is our peace that passeth all understanding- God never promised us a stress free and easy life, but He has promise to be with us always…in the midst of every trial and tribulation, He is the anchor of our souls!
So, let not your heart be troubled…though the road may be mighty rough…Jesus is closer than the very air that we breathe. He will never leave us nor forsake us- find comfort in these words “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” 1 Peter 5:7.
Blessings and Peace!
