Because the Lord is my Shepherd

“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.” Psalm 23:2

Rev. Milton Brunson &The Thompson Community Singers released a song in 1986 entitled “Safe in His Arms.” It has many times over reminded me of the never-ending protection, love and provisions which come from our risen Savior; our all and all…El Shaddai -The Lord God Almighty!

Our provisions and protection have absolutely nothing to do with self preservation- but it has all to do with the One who keeps, sustains and provides for us all… The words of the Twenty-third Psalm lovingly reminds us that “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” Psalm 23:1. And Because the Lord is my shepherd…I have everything I need!

My friends, whether it is a physical, spiritual, mental, or financial need that is challenging you today,  rest in the assurance that God has it all in His hands… regardless to what is going on in our own lives or even the world around us, we can look toward the author and finisher of our faith-JESUS-knowing that He will take care of us.

If we believe and acknowledge that by His hands, at the creation of the world, He flung the beautiful universe in the cosmos, then when we lay our cares and concerns at the foot of the cross…won’t He do it? And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.” John 14:13-14.

David writes in Psalm 23:2 “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.” The imagery is of a pasture of sheep, cared for by their shepherd, quietly feeding on vibrant green pastures and drinking from a silent stream, oppose to a rapid river that would frighten and possible overtake them. So it is with every born-again believer, God feeds us with bread from Heaven to nourish our very souls and allow us to rest in the peace and safety of the Holy Spirit’s comforting grace.

Take heart and rest in His word “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.” Psalm 37:25. This day, let us choose to embrace the empowerment of the Holy Spirit who gives us strength, peace, and courage to endure the challenges of life- not walking this life in pity as one who has no hope- but knowing that all is well… and this too shall pass! 1 John 4:4 tells us “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”

There is absolutely no failure in God-so let us stand firm in our faith, clinging to the Great Shepherd of the Sheep, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ- He is the Keeper of our souls, and yes all of His beloved children can say…because the“The Lord is my Shepherd!” I am safe in His arms!

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:
And I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. -Psalm 23
What a blessing to know in the midst of it all…He hides us safe in His arms!
