Our Guiding Light
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1.
The first reaction when walking into a dark room is to turn on the light, without the light we are unable to see obstacles in our way, find what we are looking for, or even to move safely around the area. Light and dark can also contrast to our spiritual sight . . . without the light of the world, we walk in darkness as one who is lost, afraid, lonely with no sense of direction, finding it easy to stumble and fall. But the word of God validates that every born-again believer has the guiding light from above dwelling in our hearts. “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” Matthew 5:14.
Jesus often used parables or analogies that His hearers could easily associate with life experiences, such as the contrast between light and darkness. There was no electricity during that time and oil lamps were used, we can imagine how dark and fearful the night would appear outside the use of a small lamplight. In John 8:12 states “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” Jesus is the true source of spiritual light; He gives direction, peace and comfort that leads to everlasting life.
Prior to salvation we all walked in darkness, fear and sin, the inability to see the truth of God and to know how to love God and our fellowman. The enemy of our souls is and always has been the ruler of darkness and sin that separates us from God. It behooves us to never let our guard down, we are not exempt from the obstacles that he continually cast in our way. 1 Peter 5:8 states, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” The good news is that all of God’s beloved children are kept by the power of the Holy Ghost-He reminds us and leads us to is our light in the darkest of nights…and absolutely nothing can ever separate us from the love of God!
If you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, today is the day that you must come out of the darkness into His marvelous light. He is the only way to everlasting life and will make your life brand new. John 3:16 guides our way to the light . . . “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
It is only in Jesus that we have the hope and light of salvation; He alone provides, protects, and strengthens us along this life. Let us seek to live increasingly in His presence, power, and grace. He hears our calls, and we are held safe and protected from the fiery darts of the enemy forever.
So my friends, let us never cease to pray for the empowerment of our guiding light, resting in the comfort of His faithfulness . . .“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Psalm 27:1.2.
God bless, guide, and keep us all.
