A Wise Servant
But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.” Luke 12:48.
In our household, my parents had five of us, four girls and one boy. On occasions, my parents would leave my oldest sister Charlene in charge when they left home for an errand. As soon as my parents would pull out of the driveway, we would all start playing, and one of the girls’ favorite things was to dress up in my mom’s clothes and shoes…she had a green bathing suit with matching heels and dress up time was on!
Now we all were responsible for some task or chore prior to our parents return…I was the youngest and my basic job was to “be good” and watch the TV, well as you can imagine, time would slip away from us and soon, someone would yell, they saw mom and dad coming around the corner! Things would start flying in closets and anywhere out of sight…knowing full well that mom would have our rear ends… and yes, because the chores where not done, the punishment was inevitable…thankfully being the youngest, I never received the stiffer consequence.
As born-again believers, our Heavenly Father has entrusted us with a job to do…responsibilities assigned for the upbuilding of His kingdom; our duties are all according to the gifts and talents given to us individually by our Lord…and most important, He is soon to return! Will you be found faithfully working or caught off guard? “And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?”
In Luke chapter twelve, Jesus teaches his disciples a parable about a wise and faithful steward oppose to one who is caught abusing and unfaithful with His Lords goods; to that unwise servant the scripture states “The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.” Luke 12:46.
God has blessed us tremendously, to whom much has been given, much is required…let us give and pour out from our hearts all that He has entrusted in us to others; today is the perfect day… John 9:4 admonishes us all “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” The enemy will always tell you..but tomorrow you can do it!
Whatever God has given to you to do…do it now and seek the Lord in prayer, asking for His guidance to be faithful in your calling, doing a job in hopes to be found pleasing in His sight. “Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.” Luke 12:43-44. Get busy and don’t let Him catch you with your works undone!
Blessings and peace to all!
