A Lasting Memorial Forever

“And command ye them, saying, Take you hence out of the midst of Jordan, out of the place where the priests’ feet stood firm, twelve stones, and ye shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the lodging place, where ye shall lodge this night.” Joshua 4:3.

A memorial is defined as something, especially a structure, established to remind people of a person or an event. In the book of Joshua chapter four, as Joshua prepared to go into Jericho to battle, God instructed him to have twelve men of the people to take stones from the place that the priest foot stood firm in the Jordan River. “And command ye them, saying, Take you hence out of the midst of Jordan, out of the place where the priests’ feet stood firm, twelve stones, and ye shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the lodging place, where ye shall lodge this night.” Joshua 4:3.

God performed a miracle and dried up the Jordan River so that the people passed over on dry land. The twelve stones were to be a memorial of God’s amazing power and deliverance of His people who came cross the Jordan on dry land. They were to remind their children when they asked what the stones meant that they were to forever reverence and fear the One true and living God that has all power in heaven and on earth. “For the Lord your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over: That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the Lord your God for ever.” Joshua 4:23-23.

God is the Great I AM, He is still performing miraculous events in our lives today. The bible reminds us to “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6. It is our responsibility to raise our children in the fear and knowledge of the Lord; as parents and beloved children of God; we must be witnesses of His power, majesty, and unconditional love; teaching, and constantly reminding them through words and actions the goodness of the Lord. It is not enough to say how good God is, but to let it shine in the way that we live. Children learn by example…what are your children, grandchildren and other younger individuals seeing and hearing from your walk-in life?

Let us reverence and serve God each day of our lives; admonishing the upcoming generations to also reverence, praise, worship and give God the glory for being our Creator, deliverer, and all in all; as parents, grandparents, and caregivers, we must become living stones as memorials of God’s amazing grace and power to not only our children, but to the world.

We must proclaim to all we encounter what God has done in our lives to bring us this far, and of His saving grace through Jesus Christ our Lord, who died and rose again that whosoever believes in Him may have the right to eternal life. Activities in our homes, schools, Churches, and all that we do should show forth evidence that our God is the One true and Living God.

Our society has fallen short in remembering “whose we are” But, when we choose to let go and let God be the head of our lives…we will become living stones of His amazing grace and lasting memorials forever!

God blessings, peace and joy be with you all.
