Answered Prayer
“Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.” 1 Kings 20:5
God hears the cries of his children. Prayer is one of the most valuable resources that we possess. It gives us direct communication with God, in it we find strength, courage, and hope for every tomorrow. There are numerous examples of God answering the prayers of his beloved children in the bible.
One in particular is the prayer of Hezekiah when he was sick. Even as he wept the Lord was answering his prayer; God spoke to the prophet Isaiah as he was leaving the temple to turn around and go give Hezekiah a word. “Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.” 1 Kings 20:5.
God knows our every thought, need and desire…we only need to ask; sometimes He answers yes, sometimes no or even wait awhile; but know this…our tears are only temporary, just as He did for Hezekiah, He will meet us at the place that we need Him the most.
I still have a visual in my mind of my own personal prayer time with the Lord. As a young teacher I taught at a fairly new school. My classroom was extremely large and had a humungous closet; it was equipped with a long desk as well. I always returned to my room for lunch and subsequently, I often went in the closet for prayer instead of eating. On leaving that position for a much prayed for promotion, I noticed when cleaning the closet, the large cardboard that lay on the desk where I set for prayer for over five years, it was covered in tear stains from the constant petitions of my heart; this visual reminded me of the admonition to remain steadfast and “Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17.
It is a true testimony to God’s faithfulness to provide, protect, comfort, heal, and guide me day by day…and praise be to God for the many victories won! Psalm 34:4 states “I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered from all my fears.” What an awesome God we serve… He will always answer the prayers of His children.
My friends, let us give thanks to God for every answered prayer now and in the future, we can rest in the assurance of His word “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” 1 John 5:14-15.
God blessings of peace and comfort now and always!
Thank you for this powerful word this morning. I have been praying for God to give my daughter the words that he would have would have her to say during her trial sermtrial sermon.
I need to simply ask that God be glorified through His words…
Amen my sister…He will do His will in and through her for His glory! Praying for her to follow where He leads!
